Lauren Curtis was graduated with a BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, in 1988.   She enjoys working in a variety of media, including  oils, acrylics, pen & ink, watercolor and photography.   The artist is happiest when creating pieces that represent her love of nature, wildlife, travel and spiritual subject matter.  BirdwatcherOctober2012sm

The  symbology  and mythology of ancient cultures such as Egyptian, Greco-Roman and Celtic are fused with the symbols of modern -day , natural spiritual practices, to form a unique and eclectic style.

These images are often portrayed through the woman’s perspective, showing the importance of “The Feminine” , which is sometimes over-looked.

Travel is another  major influence in Lauren’s work and the pieces, usually photographs, created from these journeys helps the artist  to convey the beauty  found in diversity, as well as in the similarities, that run through various cultural belief-systems.

Lauren has had artwork and poetry published by  greeting card and crafter companies, magazines and historical organizations, including the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission.  One of her pieces was selected for the permanent collection of the Joyce Kilmer Library in central NJ.

Her work has been displayed in private collections, healthcare centers and galleries and was selected for a solo exhibit at Johnson &Johnson World Headquarters, July-August, 2009.  She was a featured artist on the Science Channel‘s TV show Oddities in December, 2011 through June, 2012 and has done radio interviews as well.  Lauren has participated in over 95 solo,  group & juried exhibitions and is  also a member of several NJ Arts organizations.

Her artwork has been sold throughout the US and abroad,  and can  be seen in  venues in NJ, NY, MA and PA.

First of all let me explain why my name is Con Artist...Born Constance; disowned by my father and divorced...decided to give myself a name the way people chose their names throughout history...according to my profession...I am not a con, I am an artist.  I have been painting since I was 4 and have a BFA Degree. 14838_1170945277338_7568117_n

The past few hundred years have claimed most of my youth dabbling in different mediums such as theater, costuming, surrealism and testing the waters of intimate relationships...

I love Argentine Tango…I dance the tanguero/male/leader part of this passionate dance.  I perform, choreograph & teach.

My imagery comes from my vast imagination and strong belief that as a creative person, it is my responsibility to express it, share it & substantiate it.  Before I do anything, I ask a higher power to bring to the plate what my task is and only then do I trust my instinct...

    14838_1170944157310_8229912_n
I presently work in alkyd oil paint, as it dries quicker and I like the immediate gratification.

My imagery revolves around different topics...Tango, Queers, Pedophilia, Menstruation, Erotica, Platform People, Sphenoid Bones, Brasheers t.m., Sleevelings t.m., Flap Floblems t.m. and Humor.

I have exhibited in New York, Canada & The Amazon Jungle.

Dear viewer, please join me in my journey.

    The Art of Gaia Orion

With deliberate, minute brush strokes, Gaia creates compelling geometric patterns with bold colors. Nature, global and figurative motifs coalesce and harmonize together in the spirit of wholeness and infinity. Her paintings beckon the viewer to relax and contemplate, explore, and discover the inner and outer worlds of existence.

In sharing the artwork and connecting with others she discovered that these transformational themes are part of a larger visionary movement that is active in society today... as deep ecology, social justice, conscious politic, alternative economy, and so on...
Uniting our vision and natural talents can become a catalyst for individual and collective change so that we can move together toward a healthier humanity.

Gaia Orion has received international acclaim for her visionary paintings and for her participation in many worldwide projects that strive for positive change. The artist, who currently lives in Ontario, Canada was born in Paris, France and graduated with honors from Ecole des Beaux Arts as an architect. DOORWAY TO FAIRYLAND
    Doorway to Fairyland

I have painted all of my life, and explored many genres ~  from Realism, to Impressionism and Abstractionism. I portray a wide variety of subjects in my Art, but various forms of Fantasy have always been the closest to my heart. This includes Fairy Tales, Myths, and New Age.

I am a great lover of Nature, which seems alive to me.

That is why I enjoy personifying all aspects of it, and this feeling is one of the reasons I am drawn to portraying the World of Fairies, Elves, Gods and Goddesses. It has always provided great inspiration for me, and a wonderful feeling of the Spirituality of all things.  And so I often incorporate many aspects of Nature into my paintings.

They may be from the grandest aspects, such as the Moon, Mountains and Forests, to Animals, Clouds, Rainbows, and tiny Mushrooms, etc.

I am happy to have had the opportunity to visit many gardens, in the US, and throughout Europe.  They have always inspired me with their beauty, and I often add gardens to my paintings.  They give me Peace and great Joy, which I hope to impart to others.

I live happily with my Soul Mate and Husband Michael, a true Renaissance Man,  who is a great inspiration to me.  We live in a timeless Land of old fashioned houses and gardens, on the edge of a Mystic Woods, with trees that Arthur Rackham would have loved to paint.

We enjoy many things together, some of which are the Fine Arts, and walking through lovely Gardens.  Even simple pleasures, such as feeding the little animals in our backyard, gives us much Happiness, and a great connection with the Beauty and Wonder of all Life.

    FAIRIES IN MY GARDEN

I have always been inspired by great Artists throughout history, and regard them as my teachers.  Some of my favorites are those of the Italian Renaissance, the Pre- Raphealites (I like John W. Waterhouse the most), and the Hudson River School of Landscape Painters.  Maxfield Parrish is my favorite illustrator, and I feel that Sir Joseph Noel Paton is one of the greatest Fairy Artists.

In my small way, I also enjoy continuing in the tradition of Beatrix Potter with her little animal people, and Cicely M. Barker with her lovely Flower Fairies.

I've taught Art, Modern Dance and Classical Ballet, and Drama to adults and children.  I also created a Community Theater Group, presenting classical literature, including Fairy Tales and Shakespeare, on stage.

At this time I have decided not to teach anymore, and to devote myself solely to my Art Work.  I always have been fascinated with the gracefulness of dancers, and often ask them to be models for my paintings.

My Art has been licensed in many fields, such as for prints and posters, wall coverings, puzzles, calendars, greeting cards, figurines, etc. and I've illustrated several children's books. I daydream about my paintings for a while before putting them on canvas.  This preliminary technique of "Mind Painting" helps me to develop an imaginative Work of Art.
