Celebrate yourself today.
This week.
The rest of this year.
The rest of your life.
Celebrating yourself takes many forms.
My celebrations are focused on my long-term health.
Self-care = celebrating myself/yourself
Holiday celebration can mean tossing self-care.
Alcohol flows freely.
Sugar is offered so kindly.
Ultra processed foods abound.
Time to review the four foundations of a long, healthy life:
> Brain health
> Social connection
> Stress resilience
> Nourishment
Brain Health
< Nootropics feed the brain. Forget drugs. Be dubious of supplements. Choose an herbal ally or two to preserve cognitive function. Sage and rosemary are two of my favorites.
Learn about nootropic herbs here:
.
< Are you a mentored student? Then you have access to all my 2025 HealthyLife shows, focusing on nootropics.
.
< Every neuron has two million mitochondria. Feed your mitochondria. With nourishing herbal infusions, dance, red meat, and rest.
Social Connection
< This is why you go to those parties.
Why you celebrate with your family.
Focus on connections.
< Put away your "crap book" and pull out the scrap book.
Revisit your most joyous memories.
< Look into people's eyes.
Tell them you love them.
Indulge in hugs. Long hugs.
Stress Resilience
< My mentor Elisabeth Kubler Ross advised us to seek stress.
"That's what keeps a bridge up. That's what architects rely on.
If you want to get anywhere, you need stress."
< You can benefit from any stress, she believed, except for two:
Loud noises and fast motions.
We are hard-wired to be alarmed by these.
< Turn off the television; it's filled with loud noises and fast motions, even nature shows, even comedies.
Turn down the volume if you can't turn it off.
< Consider what's on your screen.
Consider the music you absorb.
< Let all other stress become compost that nourishes you.
Nourishment
< Drink a quart of nourishing herbal infusion a day, and you can deal with a glass of bubbly and a handful of cookies.
< Make this the year you find out how convenient frozen fruit and vegetables are. No more waste. No more rot. No more stressing about wasting food.
< Pull out the herbal pestos you made this summer/fall and imbibe in their antioxidant richness. Pesto on toast. Pesto in omelets. Pesto garnish for squash soup. So many delicious ways to eat green.
.
Celebrate.
In beauty.
As a giveaway.
Breathing with the plants.
Heart beating as one with the heartbeat of the earth.
Surrounded by green blessings
Happy Holidays!
Gratitude
Joy
